Community Standards

A directory built on respect for everyone.

Givica is designed to provide clear, accurate, and reliable access to community resource information. Organizations that create listings are asked to maintain these shared standards to support clarity, safety, and trust.

๐Ÿค

Our Core Commitment

Givica is a directory for the entire community. We believe every person โ€” regardless of who they are, where they come from, or what they believe โ€” deserves to find help when they need it. We hold every organization listed on Givica to that same standard.

What We Expect

Standards we ask every listed organization to follow.

By creating a listing on Givica, your organization is asked to uphold these standards for as long as your listing is active.

1
Accurate Information

Listings should reflect current and correct information. Organizations are responsible for updating their listings as needed. Each listing displays a "Last Updated" timestamp so the community can see how recently information was reviewed.

2
Clear, General Availability

Givica is designed for clear, general information โ€” not real-time coordination. Updates should use general timeframes. Urgent instructions are not supported.

โœ“ Use: "Clothing available Saturday afternoons"  ยท  โœ• Not: "Come immediately โ€” we have coats now"
3
Direct Communication

All communication takes place directly between individuals and organizations using the contact information in each listing. Givica is not involved in these conversations.

4
Neutral and Appropriate Content

Content should remain clear, respectful, non-political, and appropriate for a public audience. Listings should not contain misleading information, inappropriate language, political messaging, or content that could cause harm.

5
Open to All

Organizations are expected to provide services openly and without unlawful discrimination. Geographic service areas are permitted โ€” organizations may limit services to a specific zip code, city, or region โ€” provided those boundaries are applied consistently and not used to exclude any protected group of people.

6
Ongoing Updates

Listings should be updated regularly. Listings that are not kept current may become less visible over time. Givica may review listings and request revisions to ensure they remain accurate and aligned with these standards.

๐Ÿ“‹

Registration is required for independent listings.

To list independently on Givica, an organization must hold a valid EIN or state registration.

Partner organizations โ€” including grassroots groups and mutual aid networks โ€” may appear on Givica only through a Community Ally sponsored event. A Community Ally is a verified Givica organization that partners with and supports smaller or partner organizations, helping to bring multiple services together for the community. Community Allies may sponsor partner organizations by including them within shared events on Givica. There is no additional cost. Organizations registered as a Community Ally are identified with a CA badge beside their listing name.

All groups appearing on Givica โ€” whether independently listed or included through a Community Ally โ€” are held to the same Community Standards. The sponsoring Community Ally is responsible for ensuring that any group they include meets these standards. If a concern arises, both the shared event and the Community Ally's listing may be reviewed.

While all Community Allies on Givica are verified organizations, Givica is not responsible for the conduct, intentions, or practices of any organization. We encourage partner organizations to independently research any Community Ally before entering into a partnership or appearing in their shared events.

๐Ÿ“

Serving a specific area is not discrimination.

Organizations may restrict their services to individuals within a specific zip code, city, county, or region. This is not considered discrimination under Givica's Community Standards, provided that geographic boundaries are applied consistently and are not used as a proxy to exclude any protected group of people.

โœ“ Permitted
"We serve residents of zip codes 12345 and 12346 only."
โœ“ Permitted
"Our services are available within a 10-mile radius of our location."
โœ• Not Permitted
Using a zip code as a disguised way to exclude people based on race, ethnicity, or any other protected characteristic.

If your organization has a geographic service area, please state it clearly in your listing so community members know before reaching out.

โ›ช

Respecting faith while serving community.

Givica welcomes faith-based organizations and respects their legal right to operate in accordance with their sincerely held religious beliefs. Faith-based organizations may limit participation in certain programs โ€” such as faith-specific counseling, religious education, or membership-based services โ€” consistent with their beliefs and applicable law.

However, Givica asks that all listed organizations โ€” including faith-based ones โ€” provide basic human services such as food, clothing, emergency shelter, and general assistance to all individuals in need, regardless of who they are.

โœ“ Respected
Limiting faith-specific counseling or religious education to members of your faith community.
โœ“ Respected
Requiring participation in religious content as part of a faith-based recovery program.
โœ• Not Consistent With Our Mission
Turning away someone in genuine need of food, shelter, clothing, or emergency assistance based on who they are.
Not Permitted on Givica

Behaviors that are not consistent with our mission.

Givica is built on a simple belief โ€” that every person in need deserves to be treated with dignity. The following may result in a listing being reviewed, paused, or removed.

Enforcement

What happens when standards are not met.

Givica may review any listing at any time. When a concern is identified, we take the following steps:

1
Review
Givica reviews the listing against our Community Standards, which may include reviewing publicly available information about the organization.
2
Decision
If the listing does not meet our standards, it may be flagged for revision, limited in visibility, or removed. This decision is made by Givica.
3
Notification
The organization is notified by email with reference to the specific standard that was not met.
4
Final
All enforcement decisions are final. Givica is not obligated to enter into further discussion regarding enforcement decisions.

These standards help maintain a consistent and reliable experience for both organizations and the community.

"Givica exists to connect all people to the help they need. Every organization listed here shares that mission โ€” and that responsibility."
